The Gordon House Conservancy is hiring! We are looking for a dynamic, organized, preservation-minded person to become our part-time (25hrs/wk) Site Manager. The person hired for this position must have excellent customer service experience and a willingness to be a bit flexible with their time. Occasionally, throughout the year, the Site Manager will be required to attend meetings and fund-raisers off site and outside of regular business hours.

The Gordon House is a historic house museum designed in 1957 by Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1969), an American architect whose career spanned more than 70 years. The house is built in Wright’s Usonian style, a style he developed as an affordable, efficient housing alternative for the middle-classes. The Gordon House was built in 1963-64 on what was rural property near Wilsonville by Ed and Evelyn Gordon, its only owners. The house was sold out of the family and moved to its present site near the Oregon Garden in 2001 and opened as a museum in 2002. Approximately 6,000 visitors from across the country and the globe visit the site each year. The house museum not only offers tours but is available to rent for a variety of occasions and has been the site of weddings, receptions, dinner parties, celebrations of life, fundraisers and concerts.
One of the primary goals in filling this position is to hire a highly skilled Site Manager who will become a vital member of a small but devoted and passionate team of staff and volunteers. Our new Site Manager will champion the mission of this organization by being dedicated to the preservation of the Gordon House and to educating the public about Wright’s architectural principles.
General Statement of Duties:
Provides high-level of customer service to all guests. Responsible for the daily operations of the house museum, oversees daily volunteers, assists with clerical and cashiering responsibilities, general upkeep and cleanliness of both inside and outside of the house. Occasional assistance at events on-and off-site required. This position will also be trained as a docent to offer back-up services for the docent corps.

Set up house for tours
Check and set up rooms for tours and activities
Sweep steps and terraces, as needed
Place tour sign out front
Count petty cash in cash box
Prepare daily form
iPad and Showclix tablets charged and ready for use
Create visitor list for the day from Showclix
Answer phone and emails throughout the day
Greet guests and ‘scan in’ tickets on Showclix system (or take cash using Showclix Box Office feature) at noon, 1pm and 2pm
Assist with purchases from Museum Store at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm
Direct guests and answer questions, serving as an ambassador for the Gordon House, The Oregon Garden and Oregon Garden Resort, and the City of Silverton.
Must be able to answer questions about The Garden, the Resort and the City.
Oversee Gordon House volunteers and lend support with guest interactions.
Monitor and control guest and volunteer activities in a professional manner to ensure guest safety and compliance with established policies and procedures.
Greet walk-ups (those without reservations), talk about the house and encourage tours
Perform end of day sales activities
use Square and daily forms to determine daily sales numbers
count cash in cashbox (leave petty cash in box as directed)
leave daily form and sales cash for the bookkeeper
End of day routine--closing the house
daily go through house and check on all rooms
close and lock all doors/windows
turn off wall heaters upstairs
turn off small heaters/AC/fans units
lock office door
turn off photo montage
make sure proper lights are left on for safety
set alarm before leaving
take out house garbage weekly (more if needed)
Stock Museum Store
Order and arrange new merchandise as needed
Manage on-line Museum Store
Schedule regular maintenance services
Support maintenance vendors as needed
Work with volunteers
Train new docents
Schedule docents to work each month
Schedule volunteers for events
Perform other duties to support the organization, as needed
Prepare sales and ticketing reports, as needed
Attend two board meetings per year (those held at GH)
Skills and Qualifications required:
High school diploma or equivalent
Proficiency with English language; spoken word and written
Ability to walk up and down stairs
Lift 20-30 lbs infrequently
Basic computer skills to include Word, Excel, POS systems and G Suite;
with the ability to learn new programs that support the organization, as needed
Prior customer service
Pleasant and courteous demeanor—finds it easy to talk with the public
Cash handling experience
Ability to be flexible with time---on occasion will need to work outside of ‘typical’ hours
Skills and Qualifications preferred:
Computer skills to include Word, Excel, Adobe Suite and G Suite
Social media in a business context
Additional conversational language
3-5 years in a management position
